Made with
love from the
Highlands
Hi, I’m Finlay MacDonald, founder of Chocolates of Glenshiel. I’ve always had a passion for food, having grown up in the beautiful Glenshiel surrounded by outstanding Scottish producers. When I was sixteen years old, I began to experiment combining my two favourite things: delicious Scottish food and chocolate! Working away in my parents’ kitchen, I practised and practised, slowly but surely honing my skills. Now with my very own kitchen, café and gift shop in my beloved home Glenshiel, I work with a small team who share my love of – and dedication to – uniting the finest chocolate with locally sourced ingredients we discover in our day-to-day lives in the Highlands.

Eilean Donan Castle
Loch Duich
A glen of
inspiration
I feel very blessed to live in a place as picturesque as Glenshiel – it really is a stunning setting for my wee kitchen. Its natural beauty is a constant source of inspiration as I expand our range and experiment with different flavours. We always make sure to use the best local ingredients, whether it’s locally foraged elderflower, whisky from Skye or gin from Harris. This coupled with views over the mountains and Loch Duich, I am never far from the Highland dream upon which Chocolates of Glenshiel was founded.

Meet the team
Bringing people together with chocolate
The cocoa industry is one with many flaws. Thankfully, we source our chocolate from an ethical supplier who is working hard to eradicate poverty and inequality in cocoa farms whilst empowering communities through childhood education and one-to-one support with farmers to help reshape their processes to be more efficient and safer; as well as tackling deforestation and striving towards a carbon neutral industry. To help do our part, we’ve teamed up with Village by Village, a fantastic locally-led organisation doing important work in Ghana – a country growing lots of the world’s cocoa – to help eradicate poverty and provide education and healthcare to communities in need. We asked Village by Village what we could do to help, and they told us that one of their top priorities at the moment is providing schools with clean water stations which has an enormous ongoing impact on the health of both students and staff. A proceed from each and every chocolate we sell now goes to providing clean water stations to Ghanian schools!
You can learn more about the brilliant work Village by Village are doing on their website, Instagram or Facebook.
